Research Study: Relationship Empowerment Program

Rhode Island Hospital is seeking cisgender women of all sexual orientations who drink alcohol to give feedback on a new program on alcohol use, dating and safety!

Study Background

Researchers at RIH are looking for feedback on the AWARE program, designed to boost confidence and wellbeing.

If participants agree to take part in this study, they will participate in a 5-session long sexual assault resistance program for college women. The program includes – Sexual Assault Risk Reduction and Resistance Education, Boundary Setting, Sexual Myths, Coping, Mindfulness, Empowerment Self-Defense among many other similar topics.

If eligible, women will participate in 5 sessions. Topics cover safety in social and dating situations, assertiveness, boundary setting, self-defense, and relationship health!

Additional Information

The purpose of this study is to get feedback on a new program that addresses social and dating relationships for college women.

You may qualify for this study if you meet the following criteria.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Cisgender women ages 18-24
  • Drinks Alcohol
  • Currently enrolled in a 2- or 4-year college or graduate/medical program
  • Attending school in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire or Maine

Once enrolled, this study involves attending sessions every alternate week, conducted either in-person or virtual. After each session, participants will complete surveys to provide feedback on how we can improve the program.

  • Baseline Survey – 1hr
  • Session 1 – 1.5 hours (Week 1)
  • Session 2 – 2 hours (Week 3)
  • Session 3 – 2 hours (Week 5)
  • Session 4 – 2 hours (Week 7)
  • Session 5 – 1.5 hours (Week 9)
  • 2-month Follow-up Survey – 1 hour
  • Exit Interview – 1 hour
