Study Background
Participate in an interactive online group program for LGBTQ+ teens and their parents!
The purpose of this study is to evaluate an online group program for LGBTQ+ teens and their caregivers. The program has seven weekly sessions, with separate one-hour sessions for teens and their caregivers. We need input from you and your teen to help us find out how the program works and how to make it better.
The program is meant to help teens and their caregivers learn more about being LGBTQ+, teach ways caregivers can support their teens, teach skills for caregivers and teens around dating, alcohol use, and staying safe, help LGBTQ+ teens feel good about themselves, and help increase caregivers’ ability to advocate for their teens.

Additional Information
The purpose of this study is to learn more about an online program for LGBTQ+ teens and their caregivers. We want to learn if this program provides LGBTQ+ teens and their parents with tools to help stay safe and make healthy decisions. We also want to learn more about what teens and their caregivers like about the program, what they don’t like, and how we could change it to make it better.
You may qualify for this study if:
- Teen is 15-18 year old
- Parent/Guardian is at least 18 years of age
- You are an LGBTQ+ teen who is dating
- You are a parent/caregiver to an LGBTQ+ teen
- You have access to a device to log on to the Internet
- You are able to complete a one hour, once weekly group for seven weeks
You will need to do two things if you decide to be in this study. First, you will need to complete three online surveys on your phone, tablet, or computer. You will complete one survey right away, a second survey about two months later, and a final survey three months after you complete the second one. These surveys will ask about you, your interactions with your teen, and your parenting behaviors.
Second, you will need to attend seven online group program sessions that will be held once per week at the same time every week. You will either attend these group sessions right after you complete the initial online survey or after you complete the final online survey.
After each group session, you will be asked to complete a brief survey about what you thought about the session. We will keep all your survey answers private and will not share them with your teen.
You will not be paid for participating in this study, but you will receive gift cards for your time completing the surveys. You will receive a $15 gift card for completing the first online survey and $20 gift cards for completing each of the other two online surveys. You will also receive $15 gift cards for completing the short surveys about each session that you attend. The total amount of gift cards you can each receive is $160.
There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.
