Study Background
How Do Product Features Influence Young Adult Vaping Habits?
The study Using Real-Time Data to Examine the Impact of Product Characteristics on Young Adult ENDS Use aims to better understand how young adults use electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS), such as e-cigarettes or vapes. Researchers at the University of Oklahoma are specifically interested in how product features—like flavors, device types, and nicotine levels—affect patterns of use and the potential for addiction. The study is fully remote and spans approximately three years, with participants engaging in activities every six months through a mobile app and mailed saliva test kits.
By collecting real-time data through short daily surveys, longer follow-up questionnaires, and biological samples, this study seeks to uncover how product design influences vaping behavior over time. The findings will provide valuable insights into young adult vaping habits and may help shape future public health strategies aimed at reducing addiction and promoting safer behaviors.
The University of Oklahoma is an equal opportunity institution.

All parts of the study are done completely from home, so there are no clinic visits or travel required.
This cycle repeats every six months during the study period, and your participation helps researchers learn more about how young adults use vaping products.
You will be paid based on how much of the study you complete in each six-month period. For the daily surveys, you can earn between $15 and $30 depending on the percentage completed. You will also receive $30 for completing the longer survey and saliva test. The maximum amount per six-month period is $150.
