Study Background

We know from previous research that alcohol consumption decreases your ability to regulate your own behavior, as well as making you want to eat more. In this study, we want to examine the relationship between alcohol and eating specifically for people who struggle with binge eating.

Program participants will complete 2 Zoom assessments and one in-person appointment in Los Angeles, CA. You may be eligible if you are over 21 years old, experience binge eating and drink alcohol regularly.

Additional Information

The purpose of this research study is to examine the relationship between alcohol and eating experiences for individuals who experience binge eating.

You may qualify for this study if you meet the following criteria.

Key Criteria:

  • 21+ years old
  • Experience emotional eating, binge eating or out of control eating
  • Drink alcohol regularly
  • Not pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant
  • No history of substance use disorder other than alcohol
  • No negative allergic reactions from drinking alcohol
  • BMI less than 40

Once enrolled, this study involves:

  • 2 initial Zoom assessment that includes semi-structured interviews of binge eating and alcohol use in past 3 months and a final eligibility determination.

  • 1 appointment in Los Angeles, CA of approximately 2-3 hours which involve drinking different amounts of alcohol and tasting various snack foods.

Compensation is provided up to $175 for your time.
