The Cho lab is run by Dr. Youngsun Cho, a child and adolescent psychiatrist at the Child Study Center. The lab focuses on studying how psychiatric illness relates to brain development in children and teenagers.

Additional Information

This study will use MRI to examine how the function of the brain supports cognition and motivation in teenagers with depression and how this function might change over time.

Teens who meet the following criteria may qualify for this study.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • 13-17 years old
  • Diagnosed with Depression
  • Able to undergo an MRI scan (no non-removable metal in the body or severe claustrophobia)
  • Right-handed
  • Depression that affects day-to-day life more than anxiety


Exclusion Criteria:

  • Diagnosed with ADHD or PTSD
  • Weight higher than 250 pounds

The study involves a phone screen for eligibility, clinical interviews with the teenager and parent, cognitive and IQ testing, urine testing, and at least 2 MRI’s over an 18-month period.

As a participant, you can receive up to up to $730 for study completion.
