Conducted Online
Study Background
Scientists at Western University and Lawson Research Institute are testing a digital intervention to help improve memory and thinking in older adults with Cognitive and Lifestyle interventions.
SYNERGIC-2 is a 12-month personalized, home-based lifestyle intervention designed to improve cognition in older adults with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). The program targets five domains-physical exercise, cognitive training, diet, sleep, and vascular risk management-delivered through a digital platform with 1-on-1 coaching via video conferences. The effectiveness of this intervention will be compared to an online educational program, Brain Health PRO (BHPro). Participants will be randomly assigned (50/50 chance) to one of the two groups and notified of their assignment. Randomization ensures assignments are made by chance, without influence from participants or study staff.

Additional Information
In this study, we will test whether SYNERGIC-2, a digital program of personalized multi-domain lifestyle interventions, can help improve cognition in older adults with Mild Cognitive Impairment. In the future, we hope that these interventions could be offered more widely to help older adults with Cognitive and Lifestyle interventions improve both their memory and thinking.
You may qualify for this study if you meet the following criteria.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Ages 60-85
- Experience problems with memory or thinking (Mild Cognitive Impairment)
- No diagnosis of dementia (e.g., Alzheimer’s)
- Speak English
- Have access to the internet
- Live in Canada
SYNERGIC-2 is a 12-month home-based personalized multidomain lifestyle intervention to improve cognition in older adults with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), a pre-dementia state. These personalized at-home interventions target 5 domains with tailored physical exercise, cognitive training, diet recommendations, sleep interventions, and vascular risk factor management and are all delivered using a digital platform. SYNERGIC-2 will be conducted with participants in their homes using video-conference meetings to test participants and to coach them 1-on-1 through the interventions on a web-based digital platform. The effect of these combined interventions on cognition will be compared to an online-educational program Brain Health PRO (BHPro).
- If you decide to participate then you will be “randomized” into one of the study groups described below. Randomization means that you are put into a group by chance. It is like flipping a coin. There is no way to predict which group you will be assigned to. Neither you, the study staff, nor the study doctor can choose what group you will be in. You will have a 50/50 chance of being placed in either group. You will be notified which group you are in.
No compensation is offered for participation in this study.
There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.
