Remote Back Pain Research Study
Researchers at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center are conducting a study to investigate the effects of a mind-body approach on improving quality of life for people with chronic back pain.

Chronic Pain in Back
Ages 18+

Conducted Remotely
Study Background
Could a mind-body approach reduce chronic back pain?
More than 110 million Americans are burdened by pain.
Beyond the devastating effect pain can have on patients’ lives, the cost of treating pain is staggering. Additionally, various studies have shown that conventional treatments, such as surgeries, injections, and narcotic pain medications, have not worked.
Our goal is to find an effective, safe, and accessible approach to treating back pain.

Additional Information
This study examines whether a virtual mind-body intervention can help people experiencing back pain. We are testing whether our mind-body approach will improve back pain, particularly when other pain treatments have not worked.
You may qualify for a study if you meet the following criteria.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Ages 18+
- Back pain at least 3 days each week for at least 3 months
- Willing to engage in a mind-body intervention
- Available 1-2x/week for an online visit
Participants will be asked to engage in a virtual mind-body intervention for back pain (estimated time commitment: 1-2 virtual sessions per week, for a total of 8-13 weeks), along with between-session skills practices.
There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.
