Study Background
Gastrointestinal (GI) problems are one of the most common medical concerns reported by autistic people, but we know very little about who is more likely to get which set of symptoms, and how they emerge and evolve over time.
In this study, we will conduct interviews with autistic adults and caregivers of autistic children. In the interviews, we will ask participants about their experiences with GI symptoms (those that were and were not diagnosed by doctors); medications and treatments they tried, and whether they were effective; and how GI problems impacted their daily lives. The study will involve 1 to 3 interviews, held via Zoom.

Additional Information
We want to learn more about who is most likely to experience what constellation of symptoms, how they emerge and evolve across the lifespan, and the extent to which standard of care treatment is effective, and for whom.
You or your child may qualify for a study if you meet the following criteria.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Ages 1-25
- Diagnosed with autism (formally or informally)
- Have ever experienced gastrointestinal (GI) problems (e.g., nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, or abdominal pain)
- Speak English or Spanish
If enrolled in this study, you or your child can expect:
- 1 to 3 interview sessions (depending on how many are needed). These can be held via HIPAA-compliant Zoom.
- For participants in the Los Angeles area, we can conduct in-person interviews for anyone who prefers.
Compensation of up to $100 per interview is provided for participation in this study.
There is no cost to participate in this study.
