Study Background

Help us understand what makes quitting smoking harder, or easier, for African American menthol cigarette smokers.

Researchers at UAMS are conducting a study to better understand the real-life experiences of African American adults who smoke menthol cigarettes and are trying to quit without professional help. Many smokers want to stop smoking, but the process can be challenging. This study looks at what people go through emotionally and physically while quitting, especially the cravings and negative feelings that can lead to smoking again.

We hope this research will help identify the key factors that lead to a successful quit attempt or relapse. The information we gather will be used to develop better tools and resources to support African American menthol smokers in quitting for good.
