Study Background
Help researchers at the University of Georgia understand how and why people take part in Sober October.
Many people take part in “Sober October,” a month-long challenge where individuals voluntarily stop drinking alcohol. While some do it for health, others are motivated by curiosity, personal goals, or social support. Researchers are interested in understanding the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that influence participation in this kind of alcohol-free challenge.
This study, conducted by the University of Georgia, aims to learn more about why people choose to reduce or stop their alcohol use and what they experience during that process. If you’re 18 or older, planning to take part in Sober October, and have a history of regular alcohol use and some alcohol-related problems, you may be eligible. Your participation can help us learn how people make meaningful changes, and you can do it all from home.
