Healthy Volunteer Research Study
Researchers at Cedars-Sinai are conducting a study on how aging cells in fat and skin tissue affect metabolism in young and older adults.
Fast Facts

Adults Aged 65+ With a Healthy Weight (BMI Between 18.5-24.9 kg/m²)

No Major Health Conditions & Live a Sedentary Lifestyle (Little to No Physical Activity)

Study Background
We want to better understand how aging cells may influence health as people grow older.
As we age, some cells in the body become what scientists call “senescent cells.” These are cells that stop dividing but do not die. While they are a natural part of aging, senescent cells may play a role in how the body processes sugars and maintains overall metabolic health.
This study will look closely at fat and skin tissue samples to identify different types of cells and see how they function in younger and older adults. By comparing these groups, researchers hope to learn how aging, and in some cases excess weight, can affect long-term health.

Additional Information
This study is being done to learn how certain aging cells may impact sugar metabolism and overall health. The goal is to improve understanding of how aging affects adults over time.
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Ages 65+
- At a healthy weight (BMI between 18.5-24.9 kg/m²)
- No major health conditions
- Live a sedentary lifestyle (little to no physical activity)
- No substance abuse (other than marijuana)
- Healthy body weight
Screening to make sure you qualify.
A baseline visit, including tissue samples (small fat and skin biopsies), bloodwork, and health assessments.
Assignment to one of three groups: a lifestyle program, a study medication, or a placebo.
Monthly check-ins for safety and monitoring.
A final visit after 10 weeks, which includes repeat tissue samples and health testing.
A total of about 9–11 visits across four months.
Participants may receive compensation up to $500 for their time and effort. Parking and transportation options may also be available.
There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.
