Study Background
Babies have immature immune systems and rely on immunity from their mothers, transferred through the placenta or breast milk. Primary vaccination does not start until the baby is at least 6 weeks old, so new infants are protected only by their mother’s immunity. We want to learn more about how this immunity is transferred in order to create better guidelines for vaccination during pregnancy and infancy.
The purpose of this study is to better understand how long immune protection transferred through the placenta from mother to baby lasts when the pregnant mother received a vaccine or had an infection during pregnancy. As part of the study, you will be asked to collect your baby’s capillary blood sample at home using a collection device.

Additional Information
You may qualify for this study if you meet the following criteria.
Inclusion Criteria:
- You are pregnant or have an infant between 3 and 12 months old
- You received a vaccine of any kind during your pregnancy AND/OR had an infection during your pregnancy AND/OR are planning to vaccinate your baby in any capacity between 3 and 12 months of life
- You are willing to collect and donate small blood samples from your baby
