Study Background
The purpose of this research study is to look at how measures of brain activity and attention relate to children’s behavior and social abilities. These measures will be evaluated in children with and without autism. We hope that these tests will be useful for tracking children’s development and social skills.
So far, we have included nearly 400 children in the study and have identified some promising new tools for measuring social abilities. This study will allow us to confirm our original findings – which is critical before they could be used clinically.
Your child’s participation will help us learn more about development and social interactions in typically developing children. This will allow us to create a better foundation for future autism research. Help advance research today and join our compensated study!

Additional Information
The purpose of this study is to find objective and reliable ways to measure social development and communication in school-age children. The results from the study will help researchers create a set of objective measures (called “biomarkers”) to help in future autism clinical trials.
Your child may qualify for this study if they meet the following criteria.
Key Criteria:
- Ages 6-11
- Typically developing (i.e. without autism)
- Child and parent/guardian must speak English
- Child does not have siblings with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Child does not have an active psychiatric disorder (depression, anxiety, ADHD, etc.
If your child is a suitable candidate for the study, participation will include three 2-day visits, totaling six visits in all. Each visit will typically last between 2 to 3 hours. These visits consist of an initial visit, a follow-up visit after 6 weeks, and a subsequent follow-up after 24 weeks (approximately 6 months later).
Before you come in for your visits, you will receive a set of online questionnaires to complete. During your visit, your child will engage in cognitive and behavioral assessments. We will also inquire about your child’s developmental milestones and daily life skills. Additionally, we will evaluate your child’s attention patterns by analyzing their eye gaze while they watch short videos. We will further assess your child’s attention patterns by recording their brain waves using electroencephalography (EEG).
Your family will be compensated up to $300 for your time. Parking will be validated and transportation arrangements can be made if necessary.
