Additional Information
This study is being done to learn more about post-stroke fatigue and how it may affect language and attention in people with aphasia. Researchers will also study whether transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), paired with language therapy, can improve language, attention, and fatigue after stroke.
You or your loved one may be eligible for this study if you or they meet the following criteria.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Experiencing fatigue after a stroke
- Have difficulty understanding or producing language (aphasia)
- Ages 18+
If you or your loved one are interested in participating:
Complete a brief online screening questionnaire: about 5-10 minutes
Complete a consent session: about 1 hour, online
Complete language and cognitive testing: about 2 hours, online. This testing will determine eligibility for the treatment portion of the study
Complete a pre-treatment visit: about 5 hours across 2 sessions, in person
Complete a practice treatment session: 1-2 hours, online
Complete 10 treatment sessions about 1.5 hours each. During these sessions, participants will receive tDCS along with language or attention/language therapy
Complete a post-treatment visit: about 5 hours across 2 sessions, in person, within 1 week after the last treatment session
Complete a follow-up visit: about 5 hours across 2 sessions, approximately 3 months after the last treatment session
The study is being conducted in Syracuse, New York, and Ann Arbor, Michigan. Some participants may be eligible for help with transportation and accommodations.
Eligible participants can receive up to $200 in Amazon gift cards for completing the study. Depending on your location, transportation and accommodations may also be available.
