Study Background
We want to know whether people who have had a traumatic spinal cord injury (TSCI) are at higher risk of Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementia. We also want to examine whether this risk is lowered with regular use of things like physical therapy, therapeutic services, continued care, and preventative services.
Some people might have easier access or different barriers to these services. For example, veterans might face different barriers to care than civilians. Therefore, we are recruiting both veterans and non-veterans to this study.
Your participation can help us confirm the importance of environment, other health conditions, and early preventative care in brain aging among people with TSCI. This knowledge will promote new studies that address these interrelated issues, helping future researchers and clinicians to improve the quality of life for people with TSCI.
