Study Background
Researchers at the University of Houston are conducting a research study to evaluate the role of ethnic microaggressions in relation to smoking behavior and relapse.
A microaggression is a subtle, often unintentional act or comment that communicates derogatory or negative attitudes toward individuals based on their race, gender, ethnicity, or other characteristics.
Findings from this clinical research study will determine how microaggressions affect smoking behavior and whether smoking deprivation moderates the relation between microaggressions and smoking behavior.
Participants will attend three in-person visits (one baseline assessment and two experimental appointments). Microaggressions will be measured at the start of each experimental session. For one of these experimental appointments, we will ask you to not smoke after 6:00pm the day before your appointment. For the other experimental appointment, we will ask you to smoke as usual before your appointment.
