Autism Research Study
Researchers at the University of Kansas Medical Center are conducting a research study to learn how the medication pimavanserin may affect inflexible thinking and rigid or repetitive behaviors in people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The study is for individuals ages 12–40 who have been diagnosed with ASD.

Researchers at the University of Kansas want to understand the effects of the medication Pimavanserin on inflexible thinking and rigid-compulsive behavior in autistic teens and adults. Findings will help inform possible future treatment for behavioral inflexibility and repetitive behaviors associated with autism spectrum disorder.
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Ages 12-40
- Official diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder
- Has a caregiver, parent, or partner who spends at least 4 hours a day with them
- Interested in a clinical trial involving taking medication
Overall Duration
- Participation involves 6 or more study visits spread over 8-12 weeks.
Study Visits
- Visits range from 1-6 hours each, in person at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS
- Study questionnaires, medical evaluations, and tests of behavioral inflexibility
- Participants wear an EEG net for a portion of the study
- The study medication (Pimavanserin) is given by the study team during select visits, and taken at home during the later portion of the study

- A parent, caregiver, or partner may be asked to participate alongside the enrolled participant
Participants may receive up to $300 for completing the study.
