Study Background

Researchers at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) are investigating stress-reactivity in cannabis-using older adults.

Findings from this research study may help determine the impacts of stress on cognitive function.

Participants will attend two telehealth visits, one in-person visit, and complete 10 days of surveys delivered via text.

Additional Information

The purpose of this research study is to learn more about how cannabis use affects memory, thinking, and stress response in older adults, and how ovarian hormones affect them in older women.

You may qualify for this study if you meet the following criteria.

Key Criteria:

  • Ages 50-80
  • Use cannabis regularly (4 or more days per week)
  • No major cognitive or developmental disorders
  • No moderate to severe substance use disorders other than cannabis or nicotine
  • No significant or unstable medical conditions
  • No daily use of medications that impact cognition in aging (e.g., anticholinergics, sedatives)
  • No suicidal thoughts
  • Speak English
  • Able to remain abstinent from alcohol and cannabis for more than 14 hours

Once enrolled, this study involves:

  • Attending a telehealth visit to determine eligibility
  • Attending a telehealth visit to complete questionnaires and a cognitive testing battery
  • Participating in an in-person visit for a fasting blood draw, vital sign collection, and a second cognitive battery
  • Completing 10 days of surveys delivered via text

Up to $250 compensation is provided for your participation.
