Additional Information

This study is being done to better understand the different ways children with an intellectual disability or developmental delay experience the social world, by studying their attention to social images. It also helps include children with intellectual disabilities in research.

Your child may be eligible for this study if they meet the following criteria.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Children ages 3-17
  • Diagnosed with an intellectual disability (ID) or global developmental delay (GDD)
    • Other diagnoses in addition to an intellectual disability (such as autism) are acceptable
  • Parent or caregiver and child are able to travel to New Haven, CT for 3 in-person visits

Participation involves three visits to our lab, where children and families will talk to a clinician, complete questionnaires, and watch videos while their brain waves and movement are recorded.

In the Lab

  • You and your child will meet with a clinician for an evaluation of your child’s clinical characteristics
  • Your child will take part in 2 separate EEG and eye-tracking sessions
  • Your child will watch videos while their brain waves and movement are recorded
  • You (the parent or caregiver) will complete questionnaires, some online and some in person

At Home

  • You will also complete an additional at-home interview with the clinical team

Participating families can receive up to $300. Perks include a clinical evaluation and written report about your child, verbal feedback with a clinician, snacks, coffee, and prizes from the prize bin. Free parking is provided to all participants, and reasonable transportation costs can be covered up to a certain amount if needed.

There is no cost for you and your child to participate in our research study.
