Study Background

This research study is designed to allow evaluation of participants with neurological disorders that receive care within the Surgical Neurology Branch. One focus of this study as it relates to neurological disorders are participants with Primary and Metastatic Brain Tumors. Participants will receive standard-of-clinical-care evaluation and treatment where tissues samples or body fluids obtained during standard of care treatment may be used for research to develop new treatments for neurological disorders such as glioblastoma.

This research study is designed to allow evaluation of participants with neurological disorders that receive care within the Surgical Neurology Branch. One focus of this study as it relates to neurological disorders are participants with Primary and Metastatic Brain Tumors. Participants will receive standard-of-clinical-care evaluation and treatment where tissues samples or body fluids obtained during standard of care treatment may be used for research to develop new treatments for neurological disorders such as glioblastoma.
You may be able to participate if you meet the following criteria: Inclusion criteria:
  • Age 4 years and older.
  • Diagnosed with a brain tumor from a brain MRI.
  • Minors will need a parent or legal guardian who can provide consent.
  • Adults will need to be able to provide informed consent or have a legally authorized representative to provide consent, if incapacitated.
Exclusion criteria:
  • Participants who are unable to undergo evaluation and treatment for a neurological disorder.
If you are potentially eligible, you may be routed to one (or more) studies where you will be scheduled to be seen by a team and receive standard-of-clinical care evaluation and treatment. Clinical evaluation may include laboratory and radiological studies designed to aid in diagnosis of the participant’s condition or to facilitate treatment. These evaluations may take place in the outpatient clinic areas or the inpatient units. Some participants will receive standard-of-clinic care medical or surgical treatment for their neurological disorder. Tests may include, but are not limited to, bloodwork, EKG, chest x-rays, additional MRIs & CT scans, medical history, questionnaires, and other screening for clearance.

There is no cost for you to participate in this research study. Travel support may be provided.
