Study Background

Researchers are conducting a remote study with individuals ages 65+ who have felt down, hopeless, or have lost interest in doing things recently.

In this research study, we are evaluating a new program called Voice Assistant for Your Mood Optimization (VAYMO). The purpose of this program is to help individuals do more activities to improve their mood. 

Participants will be given an Amazon Alexa to access the VAYMO program, and their support person will receive access to a platform through which they can communicate with the participant, view their progress, and provide encouragement.

Study Background

Additional Information

The purpose of this research study is to evaluate a new program called Voice Assistant for Your Mood Optimization (VAYMO), which is designed to help individuals do more activities to improve their mood. 

You or the person you care for may qualify for the study if they meet the following criteria.

Participant Inclusion Criteria:

  • Ages 65+
  • Have felt down, hopeless, or have lost interest in doing things within the past year
  • Have a friend, family member, or paid caregiver who provides physical, emotional, or task-related support
  • Speak English
  • Have access to WiFi
  • No dementia/cognitive impairment

Participation in this study will last 12 weeks, and will be done completely virtually. 

Participants will be given an Amazon Alexa to access the VAYMO program, and their support person will receive access to a platform through which they can communicate with the participant, view their progress, and provide encouragement. At the end of the study, participants will be able to keep the Amazon Alexa. 

Participants will also complete a study introduction session, 4 surveys, and 3 optional interviews. 

Participants can receive up to $155 for completing all study activities.
