Study Background

Researchers at the University of California San Diego are examining the usefulness of a mindfulness-based virtual reality-delivered intervention for individuals with opioid use disorder who are taking medication.

Findings from this clinical research study will determine the impacts of VR on people who are diagnosed with opioid use disorder.

Participants will participate in two pre-intervention visits, eight in-person treatment sessions if randomized to VR, two post-intervention sessions, and one 3-month follow-up visit.

The purpose of this clinical trial is to examine the usefulness of a mindfulness based virtual reality-delivered intervention for individuals with opioid use disorder who are taking medication.

You may qualify for this study if you meet the following criteria.

Key Criteria:

  • Ages 18+

  • Diagnosed with opioid use disorder (OUD)

  • Taking medication for opioid use

  • Not in active psychosis

  • No prior formal mindfulness training

Once enrolled, this study involves:

  • Two pre-intervention visits
  • Eight in-person treatment sessions (if randomized to VR)
  • Two post-intervention sessions
  • One 3-month follow-up visit

Compensation is provided up to $380 for your participation.
