Study Background

This study aims to improve our understanding of how substance use disorders develop and how cravings impact recovery.

The CRAVINGS study is an outpatient research project taking place at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. Researchers are working with individuals currently receiving treatment for opioid use disorder to explore how substance use symptoms emerge and how cravings may be triggered. Through interviews, questionnaires, and computer tasks, the study seeks to uncover patterns and responses that could inform better treatment strategies in the future.

Participants will complete three to four study visits over the course of up to one month. The visits, lasting between 1 to 3 hours, may include cue-induced craving tasks and require a urine sample for eligibility. All visits are conducted on-site, and transportation assistance is available in the form of bus tokens or parking passes.
