Hemophilia A Research Study
Researchers at Oregon Health & Science University are studying why Hemophilia A carriers’ bleeding symptoms don’t always match their blood factor levels, using menstrual blood samples, surveys, a diary, and a blood draw.

Study Background
CHARM: Carriers of Hemophilia A Reporting on Menstruation
Hemophilia A is a genetic condition that affects blood clotting, making individuals more prone to excessive bleeding. Carriers of Hemophilia A, often menstruating individuals, may experience unusual bleeding symptoms that don’t always match the levels of a specific blood protein called factor 8, which is essential for clotting. This inconsistency makes it challenging for doctors to understand and manage their symptoms effectively.
Researchers at Oregon Health & Science University are working to bridge this gap by collecting data from participants who are carriers of Hemophilia A. The study involves gathering menstrual blood samples using a provided menstrual cup, completing two surveys and a bleeding diary, and participating in one blood draw. By analyzing this information, researchers hope to gain insights that could improve diagnosis and treatment options for carriers, ultimately leading to better care and quality of life.

Additional Information
This study is being done to understand why carriers of Hemophilia A often experience bleeding symptoms that don’t match their levels of factor 8, a protein crucial for blood clotting. By collecting menstrual blood samples, survey responses, a bleeding diary, and blood draw data, researchers aim to uncover patterns that can improve diagnosis and treatment, ultimately leading to better care for carriers of this condition.
