Conducted Remotely
Study Background
This study uses a mobile app, called SpineAlly, to better understand the real-world experiences of people living with spinal cord injuries or other neurological conditions.
The SpineAlly app makes it quick and easy for participants to contribute valuable data to research while also supporting their own health tracking. Participants are asked to complete a short daily questionnaire that takes 30 seconds. The app also integrates with a smartphone or smartwatch to collect activity and health data, provides tools to log medications and health events, and includes links to trusted online education and accessibility resources.
In addition, SpineAlly features an artificial intelligence chatbot that can answer specific questions about spinal cord injury, giving participants access to information and support right from their phone. By collecting and analyzing this data over time, researchers can compare the experiences of people who are newly diagnosed or recently injured with those who have been living with these conditions for a longer period.
The University of Calgary Conjoint Health Research Ethics Board has approved this study (REB23-0678)
