Additional Information
The goal is to understand how future-oriented thinking develops in teens and how it relates to suicidal thoughts or behaviors. This knowledge will help researchers design better prevention and support strategies.
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Ages 15-19
- Have experienced suicidal thoughts or behaviors in the past year
- If under 18, both parent and teen are able to participate in the study
- Live in EST or CST timezones
- Have access to a smartphone capable of downloading an app
- Have access to a device that allows them to complete a zoom call with camera and audio functionality
Participation has three parts:
A 2 to 2.5 hour virtual visit on Zoom for consent, interviews, surveys, stress hormone sampling through nail clippings, and orientation to part 2.
A forty two day period of completing brief smartphone surveys five times per day using the Metricwire app. Each survey takes under three minutes.
A final one hour virtual Zoom visit to complete surveys, interviews, and remove the app.
Participants may be compensated up to three hundred dollars. Payment includes seventy-five dollars for the first visit, eighty cents for each micro survey plus weekly bonuses for high completion rates, and fifteen dollars for the follow-up visit. Teens and parents participating in daily surveys will also receive weekly summaries of responses and mental health resources.
There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.
