Study Background
This research study will investigate an FDA approved antipsychotic medication called clozapine in individuals with schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder.
Not all participants will receive clozapine. Some will receive a different antipsychotic medication. The decision of which one you receive will be random, like flipping a coin.

Study Background

Additional Information
You may qualify for this study if you meet the following criteria.
Key Criteria:
- Diagnosed with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder
- 18-65 years old
- No allergy to clozapine
- No unstable medical or neurological conditions
- Not pregnant or nursing
- You are willing to take an FDA-approved antipsychotic medication
- You do not have an allergy to clozapine
Once enrolled, this 24-week study involves:
- Baseline assessment and medical screening
- Randomization into one of two study groups
- Receiving either clozapine or another antipsychotic medication
- Weekly study visits for 6 months (24 weeks)
You will receive reimbursement for travel expenses and time for:
- 3 initial outpatient clinic visits (2-3 hours total)
- Completion of questionnaires and blood draws
- 24 weekly outpatient clinic visits
This study is conducted at NYC Clinic: 125th Street Clinic.
