Study Background
This study explores what helps, and what gets in the way of, successful over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aid use from the patient’s perspective.
Over-the-counter hearing aids are a newer option for adults with mild-to-moderate hearing difficulties, offering easier access without requiring a prescription. While many people are choosing OTC hearing aids, less is known about how individuals decide to purchase them, how they use them over time, and what challenges or benefits they experience along the way.
In this year-long research study, adults who have recently purchased OTC hearing aids will share their experiences through questionnaires and optional interviews. By following participants over time, researchers aim to better understand real-world use of OTC hearing aids and identify ways to improve access, design, and long-term success for future users.
