About this research study:

This research is design to compare the effectiveness of two sleep inducing medications in healthy volunteers

 The goal of this project is to increase understanding of how two different sleep inducing medications affect sleep and neurocognitive performance. This is a vital question for a military context where soldiers need to perform effectively in the face of sleep loss. Results from this study will determine the most effective medication for treating sleep issues soldiers face.

The objective of the study is to to compare the effectiveness of two sleep inducing medications, Belsomra and Ambien, in healthy volunteers

INCLUSION CRITERIA:

  • Ages 18-39, non-smoker, in good health
  • English must be your first language
  • No current or history of sleep issues
  • Test negative for alcohol, nicotine, and illegal drugs, and not take certain prescription medications (females: contraception required)
  • Active duty military and federal personnel must be on leave status

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2-3 hour screening visit & 2-3 hour lab visit
  • 14 days (at home) wearing an activity monitoring device, and stool sample collection
  • 5 night & 4 days, & two half days in the lab
  • Take one of two study medications or a placebo

If you complete all parts of the study, you will be compensated up to $2,860.00 for successful completion of the study with a $350.00 bonus based on effort. The maximum total amount you will be paid is $3210.00
