Study Background

Dr. Janet Tomiyama at UCLA is recruiting participants for a study investigating how daily habits affect consumer preferences. If eligible, you will come to our lab 3 times (within the span of two weeks) and do diet, sleep, and physical activity monitoring for 3 days at the beginning and end of the study. Our study will reimburse participants for parking and up to $50 (roundtrip) for public transportation. Participants can earn up to $225 for their participation! All participant information will be kept confidential.

The purpose of this research study is to see how daily habits like diet, sleep, and physical activity affect consumer preferences.

You may qualify for this study if you meet the following criteria.

Key Criteria:

  • 18 years and older
  • English speaker
  • No psychiatric disorders, including schizophrenia, an eating disorder, or post-traumatic stress disorder
  • No physical conditions limiting physical activity in the past year
  • No sleep disorders in the past year
  • No depression or anxiety in the past 3 years
  • No allergies to soy, wheat, gluten, milk, peanuts/tree nuts, nuts, potatoes, or eggs
  • Not currently pregnant
  • Have not participated in the Beyond IQ Study at UCLA

During the first lab visit, participants will be provided an overview of the study, complete questionnaires, receive training on estimating portion sizes and tracking their food intake using a food journal, and tape a sensor on their leg to measure physical activity.

During the second lab visit, participants will complete questionnaires, meet another participant and rate products together, and taste test different foods.

During the third lab visit, participants will be debriefed, their height and weight measurements will be taken, and they will be compensated for their participation in the study.

Compensation is provided up to $225 for your time.
