Researchers at the University of Utah are seeking individuals who smoke cigarettes to join a compensated study designed to learn how to better help people quit.

Study Background
This study utilizes mobile technology to examine the associations of distinct emotions, cognitions, and context on smoking lapse.
Participants will attend 4 study visits (which can be conducted remotely) that span a 6-month period, and will wear study equipment for the first 10 days of the study. Equipment includes two wrist band sensors that collect information on physiology and movement, as well as a smartphone that will be used to answer short surveys.

Additional Information
This study is designed to learn about how to better help people to quit smoking cigarettes. We use smartphones and sensors to learn more about what people experience while they are quitting.
You may qualify for this study if you meet the following criteria.
Key Criteria:
- Smoke cigarettes and interested in quitting
- 18+ years old
- Functioning telephone number
- Agree not to engage in study procedures while operating a vehicle or machinery
Participants who are eligible to participate will attend an information session where they learn more about the study. Participants who are still interested in participating will attend 4 study visits that span a 6-month period, and will wear study equipment for the first 10 days of the study.
At the first visit, participants will sign the informed consent form, be trained in the use of study equipment, receive brief quitting advice, and receive nicotine patches and gum. Three additional study visits will also be scheduled that occur 3 days after the first visit, 7 days after the first visit, and a 6 month follow up. Starting on the day of the first visit, participants will use the study equipment (wrist sensors and smartphone) over the course of 10 days.
