Study Background

University of New Mexico is looking for individuals living in the USA to participate in a remote clinical research study on alcohol use disorder.

The remote and nationwide clinical trial of mindfulness-based relapse prevention treatment groups is delivered via Telehealth, as compared to referral to online mutual support groups, to support recovery from alcohol use disorder. The purpose of this study is to help with alcohol use disorder remission, reductions in heavy drinking and improved functioning and quality of life.

The purpose of this study is to help with alcohol use disorder remission, reductions in heavy drinking and improved functioning and quality of life.

You may qualify for this study if you meet the following criteria.

Key Criteria:

  • Interested in reducing or stopping drinking
  • 18+ years old
  • Can read and understand English
  • Engaged in heavy drinking (more than 14 standard drinks per week or more than 4 drinks on a single day for men and more than 7 drinks per week or more than 3 drinks on a single day for women) in the past 6-months

Once enrolled, this study involves:

  • Assessments will occur at baseline and every 6-months following the baseline assessment for 3 years (0-, 6-, 12-, 18-, 24-, 30-, and 36-months).
  • All participants will receive one 1:1 orientation session to either the mindfulness groups or referral to online mutual support.
  • Those randomized to mindfulness can attend as many groups as they want.

Compensation is provided up to $535 for your time.

There is no fee to participate in this study.
