Study Background
Researchers at MUSC are conducting a research study to examine how Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) treatment can help individuals diagnosed with depression.
Findings from this study will provide information on how rTMS, a treatment that temporarily increases brain activity under a magnetic field, can reduce symptoms of depression.
Participants will complete an initial interview and MRI scan before the five rTMS treatment visits. Each treatment day consists of receiving rTMS in 10 three-minute sessions, each separated by approximately 10 minutes. After the final treatment session, there is an in-person appointment to repeat the initial assessment. One month after completing treatment, there will be another in-person meeting to repeat the initial assessments. The total study duration is about one and a half months.
