Study Background
Safe at Home is a 3 year R01 study funded by the National Institute on Aging. To address caregiver needs related to firearm access, and guided by theory, our team developed Safety in Dementia (SiD). The online tool was created following international decision-aid standards and recommendations for user-friendly web design for older adults.
SiD is based on behavior change and decision-making theories and includes content to help caregivers understand options (with a balanced presentation of benefits and drawbacks) and then be motivated to take the action that works best for their situation. SiD provides parallel sections on driving safety and general home hazards to broaden reach and contextualize firearm safety.
SiD was developed to help caregivers work through these considerations – and we now propose to test its efficacy. participation may help researchers improve treatment approaches for PDPN. Further research today and join our compensated study!
