Dear Participant:
You are being invited to participate in the prescreening phase of the Youth Eating Study (YES!), a multi-phase research study about parents’ and children’s emotions, physical sensations, and eating behaviors and thoughts. The study is being conducted by Sara Bufferd, Ph.D. and Cheri Levinson, Ph.D. The study is located at the University of Louisville, Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences and is sponsored by the National Institute of Health (NIH). Some assessments in the study will be conducted remotely and some assessments will be conducted in person in a research lab at the University of Louisville.
To be eligible to participate in the main study, participants must reside within a 150-mile radius of Louisville, KY. Parent participants must be age 18 or older and female sex. Child participants must also be female and in one of two age groups (6-8 or 10-12 years old). Other eligibility criteria may apply.
This prescreening phase involves answering questions about you and your child. This prescreening survey will take approximately 5 minutes to complete. Responses to the prescreening survey will be used to determine eligibility for continuing participation to the screening phase of the study which then determines eligibility to continue to the main study phase.
If you are eligible and interested in participating in the study, participation will include completing surveys, interviews, and in-person activities. You can receive up to $630 total for participating in this study. The study includes the following phases: prescreening survey (current phase), screening survey, intake interview, and four main study phases over several years.
If you are not eligible, participation will end after this prescreening survey.
If you are eligible, you will receive information about continuing to the screening phase.
If you have any questions about your rights as a research subject, you may call the University of Louisville Human Subjects Protection Program Office at (502) 852-5188. The University of Louisville Institutional Review Board (IRB) has reviewed this research study.
