Study Background

Project NOURISH is designed to help individuals who smoke cigarettes. Our goal is to develop an effective quit-smoking treatment that will also be cost-effective and widely accessible. That’s why this study can be completed entirely online from anywhere in the U.S.

If you are eligible and choose to participate, you will receive smoking cessation treatments, nicotine replacement therapy at no cost (if you choose to use it), and will be compensated for your time and involvement in the study. You will be encouraged to try to quit smoking after enrollment in the study, but there is no penalty if you don’t quit.

Additional Information

The purpose of this research study is to evaluate a remote, fully-automated intervention to help people quit smoking cigarettes.

You may qualify for this study if you meet the following criteria.

Key Criteria:

  • Ages 18 and older
  • Smoke at least 5 cigarettes a day
  • Interested in trying to quit
  • Receive support for food insecurity in the past 3 months
  • Have smoked at least 100 cigarettes in your lifetime

Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. 

  1. Some participants will be electronically connected to their state’s smoking quitline.
  2. Other participants will receive access to an interactive smartphone app to help them try and quit.

 

Once enrolled, this 12-month study involves:

  • Baseline assessment
  • 3-, 6-, and 12-month assessments
  • 26 weeks of brief surveys following the baseline

Compensation is provided up to $510 for your time.

There is no cost for you to participate in the study.
