Study Background

Researchers at The University of Pittsburgh are conducting a study on the changes to memory and focus in pregnant people of color.

Many people report changes in their memory or focus during pregnancy, sometimes called “pregnancy brain.” The Pregnancy BRAIN Study will examine attention, concentration, and mood during and after pregnancy. Some participants will have ADHD and others will not. The information from this study will help us understand how ADHD-related symptoms change during the transition to parenthood.

Many people report changes in their memory or focus during pregnancy, sometimes called “pregnancy brain.” The Pregnancy BRAIN Study will examine attention, concentration, and mood during and after pregnancy. Some participants will have ADHD and others will not. The information from this study will help us understand how ADHD-related symptoms change during the transition to parenthood.

This study aims to understand how ADHD-related symptoms change during the transition to parenthood.

You may qualify for this survey if you meet the following criteria:

Inclusion Criteria:

  • 18 years or older
  • Pregnant
  • Identify as a person of color (Hispanic, African American, Asian, etc)
  • Less than 24 weeks along
  • Singleton pregnancy
  • Can read/speak English
  • Located within 150 mile radius of Pittsburgh, PA
 
Exclusion Criteria:
  • Moderate or severe intellectual disability or severe psychiatric symptoms affecting the ability to participate
  • Multiple pregnancy (e.g twins)
  • High risk pregnancy on enrollment  

All enrolled participants in this study will complete 4 online questionnaires. Some participants will have ADHD and others will not.

Some participants may be asked to complete a clinical interview about their ADHD-related symptoms after enrolling in the study. 

Some participants may be asked to do a short parent-child play task when their child is 4-5 months old, which will be video recorded. All research activities can be completed online or by phone/video call.

You can recieve up to $265 for your participation in this study.
