About This Study
The purpose of this 8-week study is to explore new treatment options for people with depression who are overweight (BMI between 25-40). The study will help determine the best dose of an FDA-approved medication that might be used in the future to treat sub-groups of depressed individuals.
The study will have 2-3 screening visits (online and in-person) that includes lab tests, medical and psychiatric assessments, neurocognitive testing and functional MRI (fMRI) scans as part of the study. The total length of participation is about 2 months.

About This Study

Additional Information
You may qualify for this study if you meet the following criteria.
- Currently depressed
- 25 – 55 years old
- Overweight (BMI between 25-40)
- Not taking psychiatric medications (e.g., antidepressants, mood stabilizers) or regularly taking anti-inflammatory medications (e.g., ibuprofen, aspirin)
- Not using recreational drugs (e.g., cannabis, opioids)
- Not pregnant, if female
- Not diagnosed with hepatitis A, B, or C
- Able to undergo MRI scan (no metal in the body, no claustrophobia)
- Have not been diagnosed with an auto-immune disorder
- Have not been diagnosed with a psychotic disorder (e.g., schizophrenia, bipolar I with psychotic features)
- Have not been diagnosed with a neurological disease (Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, dementia)
