Facial Pain Research Study

Researchers at the University of Florida are conducting a clinical research study to evaluate red light therapy as a potential treatment for pain related to temporomandibular disorder (TMD).

Study Background

This research study is exploring whether noninvasive red light therapy may help reduce chronic pain associated with temporomandibular disorder

Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) can cause persistent discomfort and impact daily activities such as eating, speaking, and sleeping. While several treatment options exist, not all individuals experience adequate relief, and additional noninvasive approaches are still being studied.

This clinical trial will evaluate the effects of red light therapy, including cold laser and LED light, on pain and related symptoms. By comparing active treatment with a sham (inactive) treatment, researchers hope to better understand whether this therapy may be a helpful option for individuals experiencing long-term orofacial pain.
