Remote Exercise Study for Cancer Survivors

Researchers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and The University of Tennessee Health Science Center are conducting a research study to help African American women cancer survivors build and maintain long-term healthy exercise habits.

Study Background

Many African American women who have survived cancer face unique challenges when trying to stay physically active long term.

Regular physical activity can improve energy levels, strengthen the body, support emotional well-being, and help reduce the risk of cancer returning. However, many cancer survivors experience barriers such as fatigue, lack of support, difficulty creating routines, or uncertainty about safe exercise after treatment. These challenges can make it hard to build lasting exercise habits.

This research study is testing different types of programs designed to help African American women cancer survivors stay active. These programs may include motivational text messages, peer coaching from other survivors, a combination of both, or standard health guidance. Researchers hope to learn which approach best helps participants stay physically active over time and improve overall health.
