Right now, there isn’t much information about how things like nicotine levels, flavors, and how the dip is made affect how people use and feel about it. This study will compare your usual brand with other kinds to see how these differences impact what users prefer and how much they use.
Moist snuff is popular, especially in places like rural Ohio, but we don’t know much about what influences people’s choices or the risks involved. This research will help us understand those factors better to improve public health efforts.

We’re doing this study to learn how different types of moist snuff — based on their nicotine levels, flavors, and how they’re made — affect how people use them, how satisfying they are, and how much nicotine they deliver. What we learn could help us understand what makes these products appealing or risky, and guide future public health decisions.
To participate in this study, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Live in rural Ohio
- Be a regular user of moist snuff (dip)
- Have reliable transportation to Columbus, Ohio for 5 in-person study visits
If you participate in this study, you will visit our lab in Columbus, Ohio, five times over the course of approximately two months. Each visit will last about three hours. During your visits:
- You will use your usual moist snuff brand and four alternative study products as much as you like for up to 2 hours
- Researchers will ask you questions about your experience and perform basic tests, including a blood draw
As a participant, you will be compensated for your time and participation. You’ll get $100 per visit on a prepaid Visa card. Complete all five visits in two months to earn a $40 bonus. You can also earn up to $60 for referrals. In total, you can earn up to $600.
There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.
