Study Background

We’re studying how life experiences and community environments influence tobacco and cannabis use among sexual minority–identifying young adults.

Researchers at the TSET Health Promotion Research Center want to better understand why LGBTQ+ young adults use substances and how factors such as stress, mental health, discrimination, and relationships with family and peers shape these behaviors. People use tobacco and cannabis for many different reasons, and these patterns may shift based on what’s happening in their lives.

This study focuses on the health behaviors and daily experiences of LGBTQ+ young adults who use cannabis at least twice a week. By gathering real-time data on participants’ moods, environments, and interactions, the research team aims to identify the factors that contribute to substance use and overall well-being. Findings may help improve future health resources for sexual minority–identifying communities.
