Study Background

This study aims to make mindfulness more engaging and accessible for Black college men who use alcohol.

Researchers at Florida State University are launching The Increasing Mindfulness Engagement (TIME) Project 2.0, a virtual study exploring how to better design mindfulness practices delivered via a smartphone app for Black undergraduate men who drink alcohol. This group often faces unique social and cultural stressors, and traditional mindfulness tools may not fully resonate with their lived experiences.

This study is designed to address that gap by tailoring a mobile health (mHealth) mindfulness intervention specifically for Black men between the ages of 18 and 29 who attend predominantly white institutions. Over the course of several months, researchers will assess engagement, mental health, and substance use through a mix of surveys, app-based interactions, and interviews. All participation is virtual, and selected participants may receive compensation up to $120.
