Study Background
State University of New York at Binghamton is conducting a study with infants whose sibling is diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.
This research study aims to learn more about the development of brain responses and brain structure in infants who have an elevated likelihood of autism diagnosis.
This study involves up to 7 in-person visits that take place while the infant is between 6-12 months old. To learn more about social perception, infants will participate in various activities including behavioral observation, EEG, and MRI acquisitions.

State University of New York at Binghamton is conducting a study with infants whose sibling is diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.

Additional Information
This study aims to learn more about social perception in infancy.
Your child may qualify for a study if they meet the following criteria.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Infant is ages 1 year or younger
- Infant has an older biological sibling diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
- Correct or corrected to normal vision and no history of seizure
- Born at > 36 weeks gestation
This study involves up to 7 in-person visits while the infant is between 1 year or younger.
During these visits, infants will participate in various activities to measure brain function and development including:
- Behavioral observation
- EEG
- MRI acquisitions
There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.
Families are compensated $30/hr in gift cards for their time and effort, and infants will receive a small gift at the end of each visit.
Additionally, the family will receive a picture of the infant’s brain imaging.
