Study Background
The RESTORE Lab at the University of Houston is recruiting participants for a new online study on drinking and anxiety among Latino adults.
The study aims to test Aliento, a Spanish mobile health app for Android that addresses drinking and anxiety. You may be eligible to participate if you are 21 years of age or older, identify as Latino or Hispanic, are fluent in Spanish, report a current hazardous drinking pattern, and experience symptoms of anxiety.
All study activities, from prescreening to follow-up assessments at 1-week, 1-month, and 3-months post-baseline, occur virtually via Zoom or secure online surveys.

Additional Information
The purpose of this research study is to develop and evaluate a mobile health application, Aliento, aimed at reducing hazardous alcohol consumption and anxiety symptoms among Hispanic or Latino adults.
You may qualify for this study if you meet the following criteria.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Hispanic or Latino individuals ages 21+
- Heavy alcohol user
- Experience symptoms of anxiety
- Fluent in Spanish
- Own an Android smartphone
Once enrolled, this study involves completing the following:
- Completion of a 15-minute pre-screener questionnaire
- One two-hour online baseline appointment via Zoom
- Three additional surveys across 3 months over the phone
- You will be enrolled in the study for 3 months
All appointments and surveys are conducted virtually.
Eligible participants that complete the entirety of the study will have the opportunity to receive up to $150 in electronic Tango gift cards. Electronic gift cards can be redeemed through the Tango platform which allows you to pick a gift card based on your purchasing preferences from over 100 different businesses.
Below is our breakdown:
- $30 in electronic Tango gift cards for the baseline
- $35 in electronic Tango gift cards for the 1-week follow-up
- $35 in electronic Tango gift cards for the 1-month follow-up
- $50 in electronic Tango gift cards for the 3-month follow-up
Only participants who complete the entirety of the study procedures will be compensated.
There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.
