Study Background

Researchers at The Johns Hopkins Hospital are conducting a study to learn about the genetic causes of severe depression.
We want to determine genetic factors that can help us both predict who gets major depressive disorder or bipolar disorder and which patients will respond to treatments like ECT. As part of the study, participants will provide a saliva sample using an at-home kit, as well as give information about their previous or current treatment experience.

Eventually, we hope that our findings will help researchers develop new and more effective treatment strategies for severe depression.
