Study Background

Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is seeking youth who experience social anxiety or are diagnosed with social anxiety disorder.

This research study aims to develop a new behavioral treatment for Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD), based on a strategy called Very Brief Exposure (VBE). Using fMRI brain scans, the study will assess brain activity in response to VBE stimuli.

Participation involves completing interviews, online questionnaires, and an MRI, and will take about 3 hours in total over 2 study visits. If you are between 16-22 years old and you experience social anxiety, you may be eligible for this study!

Your participation may help researchers improve approaches for the treatment of SAD, phobias, and a wide range of other fear- and trauma-related conditions in a variety of clinical populations.

Additional Information

The purpose of the study is to learn more about how social anxiety works in the brain and whether a larger study for social anxiety treatment is possible.

You or your child may qualify for this study if you/they meet the following criteria. 

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Ages 16-22
  • Experiencing social anxiety or diagnosed with social anxiety disorder

Once enrolled, this study involves:

  • Visit 1: Virtual interviews and assessments
  • Visit 2. In-person interviews/assessments and MRI

 

Total time commitment will be approximately 3 hours.

Compensation is provided up to $200 for your participation.
