Additional Information

The purpose of this study is to determine the best dosage strategy for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) as a treatment to help people quit smoking and avoid future relapses.

You may qualify for a study if you meet the following criteria.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Ages 18+
  • Smoke cigarettes daily
  • Interested in quitting smoking in the next 30 days
  • Right-handed
  • Able to undergo an MRI (no non-removable metal on or in your body)

This study will last approximately 8-10 months, during which participants will attempt to quit smoking cigarettes. Participants will be randomized to receive between 8 and 16 days of active or sham rTMS. Participants will receive these treatments either once or twice per day.

Additionally, participants will receive an MRI, complete daily questionnaires, and keep track of how many cigarettes they smoke per day for 6 months.

You can receive up to $980 for completing all study visits. However, total compensation depends on how many days of rTMS you receive.

There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.
