Online Native American Survey

Researchers at UVA Health are conducting a research survey that will be used to develop a digital intervention for Native American women and other people who can become pregnant to help them avoid a pregnancy affected by alcohol.

Fast Facts

Ages 18-44

Woman or Person Who Can Become Pregnant

Self-identify as Native American

Compensation Provided

Conducted Remotely in the US

Survey Background

While over 3.3 million US women per month are at risk for AEP, risk for AEP among Native American (Native) women is higher, due to low contraception use and high binge drinking rates.

Alcohol-exposed pregnancy (AEP) can result in Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASDs) that cause lifelong costly disabilities from brain, organ, tissue, and neurological damage. AEP can be prevented by avoiding an unintended pregnancy or reducing alcohol intake by those who may become pregnant.

You are being asked to participate in this survey because you are a Native American woman or person who can become pregnant, aged 18-44, living in one of the survey regions. To participate, you will complete a survey asking about you generally, and about your alcohol use, sexual choices, use of methods to prevent pregnancy, use of mobile phones, and interest in subsequent related studies.

All information gained from this survey will be used to help create a digital intervention that can help people avoid having a pregnancy affected by alcohol in the future.
