Study Background

While research has helped us better understand brain function in individuals with anorexia nervosa, this has not yet been translated into effective treatments.
Through this research study, we are examining glucose metabolism in individuals with anorexia nervosa compared to those without a history of anorexia nervosa.

Additional Information
The purpose of this research study is to examine glucose metabolism in individuals with anorexia nervosa compared to those without a history of anorexia nervosa.
You may qualify for a study if you meet the following criteria.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Ages 18-45
- In generally good health
- No lifetime or current psychiatric illness
- Normal lifetime body mass index (BMI) according to the CDC
- No medication use other than oral contraceptives or medications for minor health conditions such as seasonal allergies, minor pain syndromes
- No lifetime or current eating disorder
- Not currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- Able to undergo an MRI (no metal implants or severe claustrophobia)
- No history of traumatic brain injury or seizure disorder
- No history of alcohol or substance use disorder
- English as primary language
- No first-degree relatives with history of an eating disorder
- No uncontrolled hypertension, liver disease, recent heart attack, vascular disease, or dementia
Participation in this study involves:
2 phone screenings and online questionnaires
1 in-person screening visit, which includes a diagnostic assessment and blood draw
1 in-person MRI scan and 1 in-person PET/CT scan
As a participant, you can receive up to $650 for completing all study tasks.
There is no cost for you to participate in our research study.
